Our Development Director will report to our Chief Operations Officer and collaborate closely with CHT’s leadership and fundraising advisors to develop and execute fundraising strategies in service of CHT’s vision, mission, and programs. You’re a great fit for this role if you are a highly energetic, relationship-driven, and a growth-oriented fundraiser with an authentic passion for humane technology and philanthropy. We are looking for someone who seeks space and opportunities to think big, drive systems change, and co-create meaningful funding partnerships. 

CHT’s current budget is $4.1M. Most of our funding is driven by a mix of major gifts and  foundation grants. We have strong funding relationships with opportunities for growth.

Employment Details

  • Terms: Full-time permanent role with 90 day trial period
  • Level: Senior
  • Compensation: $160,000- $180,000 annual salary depending on seniority; generous PTO, medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401K with 4% matching
  • Location: As with all roles at CHT, this role will be remote with quarterly in-person meetings, which are typically held in the SF Bay Area


Lead a lively and thriving culture of philanthropy at CHT

  • Support the development of annual fundraising strategies and campaigns to ensure long-term sustainability
  • Advance and refine CHT’s case for support
  • Oversee the development of CHT’s annual impact report and org impact tracking 
  • Oversee all fundraising systems, processes, and materials
  • Cultivate meaningful engagement from staff and board in CHT fundraising
  • Develop a longer term funding strategy for CHT

Lead all operations of fundraising function

  • Develop and implement a 12+ month fundraising strategy
  • Create, track, and execute against annual and quarterly fundraising goals
  • Run weekly fundraising meetings
  • Own high-touch donor and funder relationships
  • Manage our grant writer and grant strategy
  • Lead annual giving campaigns and the full cycle of communications
  • Propose and implement new strategically aligned fundraising programs
  • Coordinate closely with our Director of Operations on gift processing and monthly finances
  • Coordinate with our COO and ED as needed 

Lead major gifts and foundation support

  • Oversee all relationships for CHT Major Gifts and foundation fundraising
  • Responsible for raising money from $100,000 to $10,000 major gifts
  • Deepen relationships with existing supporters through ongoing updates, meetings, acknowledgments, and collaborations where aligned
  • Activate CHT allies who are well-poised to support CHT fundraising efforts
  • Develop and manage the complete grant cycle, including proposals, reports, acknowledgments, and renewals
  • Cultivate new funding partnerships through regular prospect research


Ideal candidates will have some combination of the following:

  • 10+ years fundraising experience, ideally in a mission-aligned or adjacent field
  • 7-10+ years experience with cultivating and securing major gifts
  • 7-10+ years experience with foundation grants and relationships
  • Experience with donor advisory boards
  • Proven experience asking for and receiving large gifts
  • Proven experience in sustainably developing and growing a fund development strategy and team
  • Demonstrated experience in CHT mission-aligned work
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Strong project manager 
  • Strong writer of fundraising copy for donor communications, annual reports
  • Strategic thinker, systems thinker
  • Outstanding communicator; excellent speaking, writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work with founders as primary fundraisers and relationship holders
  • Highly adaptable,​ adjusting effectively to complexity and changing conditions
  • High EQ, collaborative spirit
  • High integrity
